Meet Our Team
Steve Liu, L.Ac. Director
In the of summer 1995, I walked up to my boss of a Silicon Valley company and told him that I was through with my laser engineer career and was ready to take on something new – acupuncture. My electrical engineer colleagues spread the news that Steve was under too much stress and has “flipped” because he’s going to become a “voodoo doctor” who poked needles in human bodies. Little did they know that most of them would later need to come to me for stress and pain relief. I moved to San Francisco, completed my acupuncture training at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1997. After completing my internship with my acupuncture mother, Dr. Grace Liu, I received my California license in 1998.
I moved to Tucson, Arizona in April 2001 with my acupuncturist wife, Wen Ting and our dog Doushi, an American Akida/Australian Cattledog mix. We opened our clinic in June 2001 and have been healing the Tucson community since then. In 2001 I also published an article on laser acupuncture and joined the North American Association for Laser Therapy and became its president in June 2008. As a “recovered laser engineer” I fell in love with low-intensity laser and LED light technologies for healing biological tissues. I attended many laser conferences across the United States and Europe. To improve my knowledge in the mechanism of the light therapy I joined the International Optical Engineering Society to attend their annual conference on the Mechanism for Low-Light Therapy. It was from these conferences I encountered Dr. Harry Whelan’s work in the treatment of eye disorders with a LED device. Along with a special Danish acupuncture technique I learned from Dr. John Boel of Denmark in November 2004 and this LED low-intensity light device, I decided to combine the two, and give my patients the best possible therapeutic outcome for the treatment of dry type age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and retinitis pigmentosa. My wife, Wen, and I have treated many patients with this unique alternative technique and found it to be extremely effective.

Wen Ting graduated from South Balo University, received her master degree in Chinese Medicine in July 1997, and her California acupuncture license in 1998. During her visit to Dr. Grace Liu in April 1999 she fell in love with Dr. Liu’s nice son, Steve, and married him in December 1999. She helped Steve start HanLing Acupuncture Healing Center in Tucson, Arizona. Later they developed the successful low vision program. Her Patients called her “magic fingers” because she seems to have the magic touch when it comes to the healing. Her greatest lifetime achievement came in March 2002 when she gave birth to her beautiful daughter Sabrina at a mature age of 43. She is the Center’s eye treatment specialist who will administer the treatment. Some patients call her the “magic fingers” because she able to insert acupuncture needles so quickly, precisely, and painlessly.
